April 18th Deadline is coming up!

So the April 18th deadline is right around the corner!

What does that mean?

Well for most of us it's the due date to get our individual tax returns file for federal and state. Also your first quarter payment (if you are required to pay them) for 2016 is due.

But I filed my individual extension.

Awesome! Remember that regardless of the fact you have filed your extension your TAX is still due. The extension is just for your return. If you believe you owe money for 2015 you need to go ahead and get that paid in to the respective authority.

Huh?

Yeah.. It's confusing right? The easiest way to know if you need to do something by April 18th, 2016 is if you owe the IRS or state authority money. If you think you owe them money for taxes for 2015 then you need to be concerned about April 18th.

So I just get a refund every year. Are you saying the IRS and state doesn't care if my return is filed by April 18th?

That's definitely what I'm saying. The IRS and state would love to never hear from you and keep that refund. Extra money in their pocket. With all the new changes (health care reform, etc.) you might not be getting a refund for 2015. Don't assume!

Hope everyone has a smooth deadline! Email me if you have any more questions!
